City of Lier

Lier is known for its picturesque historic center, with cobblestone streets, beautiful canals, and well-preserved medieval architecture. Some notable landmarks in Lier include the Zimmer Tower (Zimmertoren), which houses a famous astronomical clock, and the Saint Gummarus Church (Sint-Gummaruskerk), known for its Gothic architecture.

Lier is also known for its cultural heritage, including the Lier Beguinage (Begijnhof), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and various museums and cultural events that take place throughout the year. The city has a rich history and is often referred to as the "City of Pallieters," a reference to the novel "Pallieter" by Flemish author Felix Timmermans, which celebrates the joyful and carefree spirit of the people of Lier.
